When an ordinary school day ends in catastrophe at home, the older sister (McKenna Grace) realizes the only thing standing between her and her little sister (Jojo Regina) is a bureaucracy that will label them “at risk” and scatter them to strangers. In a frantic, overnight plan, the girls hide their mother’s body and scrub the house for traces, rehearsing stories for teachers, neighbors and social workers.
What begins as one lie becomes many: dodged attendance calls, a forged note, a “weekend trip” alibi. A well meaning adult (Jesse Williams) notices tiny inconsistencies the kind that only appear when kids are sleeping too little and thinking too much. The mystery is not who did something but how long the truth can be kept buried and what it will cost these two to keep it there.
