Time is a strange element of our universe that we don’t fully understand, so we play around with it in titles like Time Shooter 3: SWAT. Taking place in a universe where time seems to be intrinsically connected to one individual and that’s you. Don’t think too hard about how you ended up with this power and the responsibilities associated with possessing it as you’ve likely been plugged into a simulated universe. It’s a place where everyone seems to be after you and you need to become the hero of time… but not that one. It’s time for some action.
This isn’t the first iteration of simulated time control adventures but it still needs to be handled carefully to make it fun. This game handles it well and makes you feel powerful once you realize exactly what’s going on. The presentation allows you to detect danger and points of interest so that you can think carefully about each of your moves. It’s sort of of interesting take on a strategy game where each movement can be treated as an action that both you and your enemies take at the same time. Again, as long as you don’t think about it too much, you can get into it.
Time Shooter 3: SWAT is a 3D first-person action game about defeating enemies and saving hostages using the mouse and keyboard.
The goal of each level is to eliminate all the enemies without harming any of the hostages. The enemies will be orange and hostages will be blue. Your health is indicated by three shields at the top of the screen. If you take three hits, you’ll be defeated and have to start the level over.
When a level starts, you’ll spawn in an open area where you’ll be able to see enemies and weapons that you can use. Each weapon has a limited number of uses as indicated by a number at the bottom of the screen when you’re holding it. Time only moves when you physically move from wherever you’re standing. You can attack and throw things which will cause time to move extremely slowly. Enemies are more fragile than you and can be killed with a direct hit on an exposed part of their bodies.
Hostages are secured in rooms sealed with bright purple doors. The doors can be broken down with a weapon with enough power like a shotgun or a battering ram. You’ll complete the level once all of the enemies have been defeated.
Looking is free in this game, so take time to take a good look at your surroundings. Keep in mind that enemies can suddenly emerge from corners and alcoves hidden to the sides and behind you. Always take note of enemies that have ranged weapons and aim to put yourself in a position of cover or eliminate them first.
Although the games share aesthetics and mechanics, they’re separate experiences, but Time Shooter 3: SWAT is likely based in the same universe.
